Integrated approach
Imperium Autism Center uses an integrated approach to autism, in which the biological, psychological and social aspects of the individual are taken into account. Understanding the internal world of children with autism, such as perception, thinking and feeling, is central. In treating children, the way of communicating is adapted per child so that the children feel understood and accepted.
“For children with autism, a sense of safety and predictability is essential.
A structured environment in which expectations are clear reduces fear and confusion, allowing the child to function better.”
Connecting to the individual profile of each child.
Imperium Autism Center has developed its own treatment method that combines behavioral intervention with positive behavioral change with the holistic and integrated approach. This method focuses on stimulating desired behavior through positive reinforcement, which is a proven effective technique in autism treatment. This approach helps children learn desired behavior through rewards and positive feedback, which strengthens their motivation and self-confidence.
It focuses on mapping the unique developmental needs of each child. Each child develops at their own pace and their cognitive and emotional development is integrated into the treatment. This means that both mental and emotional processes are taken into account, which means that the treatments are better suited to the individual profile of each child.
Targeted sensory support
In addition, Imperium Autism Center offers sensory activities to support sensory stimulus processing. Many children with autism have difficulty processing stimuli from their environment, which can lead to over- or under-stimulation. By offering targeted sensory activities, such as sensory exercises and relaxation techniques, the center helps children to better regulate stimuli and thus experience more peace and balance in their daily lives.
“The combination of positive behavioral change, a holistic view of the child’s development and targeted sensory support makes the Imperium Autism Center treatment method unique and effective for children with autism.”
Outpatient individual
The treatment from Imperium Autism Center is given one-on-one to children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or related disorders with or without intellectual disability.
The well-being of the child is central to the treatment at all times. The problem behaviors are carefully analyzed, including how they are maintained and what the developmental delays of the client are.
Based on this analysis, a detailed report is written with all the goals for the client. The goals are described SMART and progress is continuously measured. This means that every time a treatment session takes place, the therapist notes whether or not the client gives an appropriate response for the goal in question.
Group treatment plus individual
Our treatment program is designed to focus on the child and to guide the children towards a successful future. We offer individual treatment in combination with treatment in the group. During this period, we work intensively with the child and his or her family to develop the necessary skills and coping mechanisms.
The new skills are learned in the group and during the 1-on-1 treatment. The children are then given the opportunity to generalize the learned skills in a structured environment and to practice social interactions and cooperation with peers. This is practiced in a group setting at Imperium Autism Center. In a group of 6 children, the children will practice communication, self-reliance and social-emotional development, among other things.
This offers a valuable transition phase before they take the step to (special) education or appropriate day care. The transition to (special) education or appropriate day care is realized within 2 to 4 years.
Group counseling with individual treatment
The Imperium Autism Center treatment center strives to provide a safe, structured, and stimulating environment for children with autism. The treatment days are tailored to the individual needs of the children and can vary in duration and intensity, depending on the treatment plans and goals. Parents are involved in the treatment process and are required to participate in parent training sessions to support their child’s treatment at home.

The Imperium Autism Center treatment team consists of professional caregivers, such as behavioral experts (psychologists and educational psychologists), pedagogues, and other specialized staff. They work together to provide a holistic approach, taking into account both the individual needs of the child and the involvement of parents. The treatments and activities are tailored to the age of the child, with differentiation between the age groups of 2 to 6 years and 7 to 12 years.
The goals for treatment can differ per child. They are mainly aimed at stimulating overall development, reducing problem behavior, increasing communication skills, developing social interaction, improving self-regulation and increasing independence and self-reliance. The treatment days are aimed at supporting children with autism in their development and helping them to reach their potential.
The child first
Imperium Autism Center applies a child-friendly behavioral intervention that works from the motivation of the child. The treatment starts with building a safe and loving relationship with the child. In that relationship, the supervisors become a (role) model that the child needs to develop further. The skills are divided into small steps. Each step is learned separately before the next step is discussed. Ultimately, the pieces together form the entire skill. Positive reinforcement plays an essential role in learning new skills. Directly rewarding every desired action and offering help when things go wrong ensures that the behavior occurs more often.
The way people behave can be observed and analyzed to find out why they exhibit this behavior and what its function is. People’s behavior is usually predictable to a certain extent. Within the tradition of behavioral intervention, methods have been developed to determine the function of behavior. This is called functional behavior analysis.

In short, the Imperium Autism Center treatment center uses various materials to support the care and treatment of children with autism. These materials range from visually supportive and sensory stimulating materials to therapeutic, educational and diagnostic materials. The use of these materials is tailored to the expertise and specializations of the various therapists and is regularly evaluated and adjusted to meet the individual needs of the children and to provide a safe and stimulating environment for their development and growth. Group treatment can focus on developing communication, social interaction, play skills and self-regulation, among other things.
Supporting activities
During the treatment day, supporting activities can also take place, such as sensory activities, physical activities and other therapies or interventions that are aimed at promoting the overall development and well-being of the child.
